Material guidance

Common items—and what needs review.

Item acceptance depends on material, condition, access, active provider capability, and disposal requirements. Disclose unusually heavy eligible items before confirmation; do not submit suspected hazardous material.

Common requests

Usually eligible for review

  • Furniture and mattresses
  • Boxes and household clutter
  • Non-refrigerated appliances
  • Yard and garage contents
  • Office furniture and fixtures
  • Rental and move-out debris
Advance review

Tell us before scheduling

  • Refrigerators and freezers
  • Very heavy or oversized items
  • Construction and demolition debris
  • Hot tubs and built-in items
  • Large quantities of dense material
  • Items requiring disconnection or dismantling
Not accepted

Use an appropriate specialist

  • Asbestos-containing material
  • Medical or infectious waste
  • Explosives and ammunition
  • Uncontained chemicals or fuel
  • Unknown hazardous substances
  • Items prohibited by law or facility rules

This is general guidance, not a complete legal or facility-acceptance list. JunkSEA may decline any item that cannot be safely or lawfully handled through available providers.

Reuse and disposal

Donation depends on condition and capacity.

Reusable items may be directed to donation when condition, provider route, capacity, and local facility rules allow it. Disposal and recycling decisions must follow the actual material and available facilities.
